LABELLING FOR NON PACKED FOODS

Writer: Surendar RajkumarSurendar Rajkumar

We have never seen label on non prepacked or loose foods, but those foods too have an expiry date which the FBO are not mentioning on the loose pack.

Especially loose packed sweets in sweets shops doesn't mention the best before or use by date on their containers, which pushes the consumers to think whether this is safe to consume or not.

Personally i have faced a situation , a customer complaint in a well known sweet brand the customer bought loose sweets from them which had a shelf life of three days since cocconut milk was used in that sweet, it was sold one day after the

manufacturing date so now the shelf life of the product is 2 days , the customer bought them and went abroad 3 days later they opened the sweet and it was full of fungus , here the mistake was with the FBO who didn't mention the shelf life on the container or the staff informed the customer orally.

So, If you buy any products in loose kindly ask the FBO regarding the shelf life of the product to avoid unsafe incidents.
